Information

Swift N78120
Caretaker: Bob Dopita, Hays, KS
Bob provides the info below...
(Captions by the editor)

"I trucked 78120 home in April of 2000 and spent most of my free time putting her back together.  Most of the project was pretty easy to figure out but some of the more simple things really hung me up.  Where to drill the holes in the panel for the gear and flap shafts was a real bear.  The airing hung me up for a long time, when it was disassembled some of the wires were just cut and none of them were labeled.  The gear doors had me stumped for a longer time than I will ever admit to.
In every case Swift owners were  quick (swift) to come to my rescue."

Here's what Bob had to start with. Considering the amount of disassembly,
he got things back in airworthy order in a amazingly short time...

On the gear. Lots of pieces still "hangin' around" at left.  Still needs "glass" at right.

Gear works!

"I think if you study my instrument panel, you will see what type of flying I enjoy.  The only electronics in the aircraft is the ELT and an Icom handheld.  The VSI and the G-meter are located right under the altimeter and the airspeed.  There is a turn & bank just because one I need one and didn't have one. ('nuff said')"

Instrument panel before (above) and after (below)...

"During the rebuild I replaced all of the rubber fuel lines, oil lines, and brake lines.  After looking at the logs and seeing that three cylinders had been replaced in the 400 hours since a major, I went ahead and put on new Millennium cylinders.  A big expense when operating on a budget but it will buy me some peace of mind."

The new Millennium cylinders...

Props on, windshiled going on (note clecos), stock exhaust and shroud shows to advantage...

Windshield is on! Spinner, stock cowl, and stock gear doors too!

"My Swift will never win any awards, she has a couple wrinkles, faded paint, and no interior but she flies beautifully and that is all I was after.  Once I get caught up on some of the things that got neglected over the last year maybe I will doll her up a bit."  --  Bob Dopita
