The Swift Association does battle with the aviation print media... Pilots routinely complain about the general media knowledge of aviation and responsible journalism. Well... looks like our own aviation journalists get it wrong too sometimes. "FLYER" newspaper and "FLYING" magazine both wronged the Swift and it was indeed gratifying to see Swifters get involved. The stories follow and after the "FLYING" magazine letter a link to what Swifters emailed to "FLYING"... ======================================= First, the "FLYER" newspaper item (then a link to the "FLYING" magazine deal...) In a recent issue of "FLYER" newspaper, their writer Michael Sweeny wrote about Aviat Aircraft putting the Swift back into production. While, for copyright reasons, we won't reprint the article here, we will give you some quotes from the story. To wit... "If everything goes right," said Aviat Production Manager Danny Hiner, "we'll be ready to begin production soon after we get that prototype in the air." (This identifies Mr. Hiner for you...) "According to Hiner, however, the new and improved Swift will have a sleek new cowl, spar caps that don't crack, and a smoother fuselage shape designed to eliminate the drag-inducing break behind the cockpits of older Swifts." SPAR CAPS THAT DON'T CRACK!?!?!? Swift Museum Foundation President Charlie Nelson's letter to "FLYER" and Danny Hiner follows... readers with slower modem connections please be patient for the two ".jpg"s to download. It is worth the wait.
