Vintage Flyers II

Featuring over 800 Antiques, Warbirds, and Classics.

Do you remember that warm feeling in your heart the last time you watched a rumbling old biplane passed, ever-so-slowly, overhead? Or witnessed a low-flying taildragger out frolicking above the fields and trees? Sights that made you feel as if someone up there was truly enjoying his or her life to the fullest? These great antique, warbird, and classic aircraft embody the true adventures of aviation. They represent the trainers, the barnstormers, the mailplanes, the warplanes, and the aerobats of the past. They were the airplanes that some of today's great aviation pacesetters first gazed upon with wonder. They were responsible for bringing a large planet together and they made is possible to see the world from an entirely different perspective. These are exceptional aircraft and it takes a particular type of person to appreciate them. If you treasure the adventure of flight, favor the beauty of mechanical simplicity, or value the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into such restorations, this book was written for you.

Vintage Flyers II, a Photographic Essay of Antique, Warbird, and Classic Aircraft.

This book was written for the vintage airplane enthusiast, by a vintage airplane enthusiast, about the great vintage airplanes that made up the first 50 years of aviation's most dramatic progress. This very special volume is brought to you by Eric Presten, the award-winning author/photographer of:  The Aviator's Timeless Choice, The Classic Taildragger Buyer's Guide, Vintage Flyers, and The Vintage Flyers Guidebook. Selected from Mr. Presten's collection of over 40,000 photographs, this volume covers the types of aircraft seen on the airshow and fly-in circuits. Well over half of these were photographed while in flight and each ground shot was carefully composed to avoid cluttered or distractive surroundings. This book will be a valuable addition to your vintage aircraft reference library.

With nearly 110,000 words of fascinating information, the updated texts and photograph captions will answer the most often-asked questions. It's all here in 480 memorable pages, profuse color, and beautiful binding. The airplanes covered here are powered by reciprocating engines, were flown in prototype form before the end of 1955, and represent no less than fourteen countries (on four continents). One hundred and twenty multi-engine airplanes (including no less than seven different types of tri-motored aircraft), eighty-three water-based airplanes, and early fifty airplanes that are the sole surviving examples of their type are featured. Of course the well known airplanes are covered, but with 552 types included there is sure to be something new for even the most devout vintage aircraft enthusiast.

A special Collectors Edition, Vintage Flyers II is a high quality, hard case bound volume, with a gold foil stamped cover, gloss coast laminated dust jacket, and elegant end papers. The book is bound in an eight by ten inch horizontal format (over and inch and a half in thickness), is indexed for reference use, and features only exquisite full-color photos in crisp detail throughout!
