For eighteen years, Rockin' Robert Sims and his classic rock band The Aces played for hundreds of events throughout California, pleasing audiences with the greatest hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The Aces were Wolfman Jack's back-up band on many occasions, and opened for major acts such as The Fabulous Drifters, The Diamonds, The Sufaris, The Coasters, Sha Na Na, and Paul Revere and the Raiders. The Aces were always a popular draw at Graffiti Night in Modesto, their home base.
Four years ago, The Aces became a fond memory when Robert moved to Napa and two other band members left the area. Soon after, Robert found local bassist Scott Cyphers and drummer Nick Okerlund and combined his love of classic rock and blues to form Napa's own band, Blues O Matix. An immediate success, the band has played in Napa and surrounding areas at the Chef's Market, the Suisan Waterfront, Downtown Joe's, Ana's Cantina, and The Beach Club, The Hydro Grill, The Surfwood, and The Pacific Blues Cafe, as well as Yountville Days, numerous class reunions, wedding receptions, and Christmas parties ... and to a stadium filled with people at the Fourth of July celebration in Tracy. Blues O Matix especially enjoyed performing in Calistoga several times with legendary blues keyboard player Mark Naftalin, member of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and host of KALW's "Blues Power Hour".
Robert says, "We love to play these great classic rock and blues songs, and it shows. I think we have as much fun as the audience."
