Welcome!

Welcome to The Frugal Youth Cybrarian Annex, specially designed to assist the gracious members of the Virginia and DC Library Associations who attended my presentation at their recent annual conference. At this site, I've tried to put many of the ideas from the book within easy reach, only a single mouse-click away. Those of you who feel more adventuresome should feel free to explore all of the wonderful shareware and freeware programs that can be found at the sites listed on the "Best Shareware and Freeware Sites" page.

Others might like to delve more deeply into the general subject of shareware, freeware, CD-ROMs and Internet resources for libraries by getting their own copy of The Frugal Youth Cybrarian. It's easily obtained from the American Librarian Association. To order, call 1-800-545-2433 and press 7. Ask for ISBN0-8389-0694-X.

Many are still quite unfamiliar with the concept of shareware. A good description is found in Chapter Two of the book. If you'd like a deeper look, click here to read an excerpt that might open a window on this marvelous set of resources.

One of the difficulties many encounter in harvesting software from the Internet is their unfamiliarity with file extraction and the tools needed for extracting or "unzipping" files. Click here for a quick primer.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope the site is helpful to you. If you have any questions, drop me a note. I'll be happy to help.
