Wine Country 25/50 Endurance Ride
Tired of riding crowded roads in parks? Join us here in the Wine Country where the views of the Bay Area are breathtaking! The Wine Country Rides will take you through rolling hills covered with ancient oaks, grassy meadows, exciting single track, and cool and shady hollows.
Come enjoy a beautiful ride in the wine country. There will be majestic views of the Napa Valley and of the San Francisco Bay Area. This ride is put on as a benefit for Skyline Park trail maintenance and for the Bay Area Ridge Trail, which is attempting to complete a 400-mile ridge trail around the San Francisco Bay Area. IMAGINE MULTI DAY RIDES IN THE BAY AREA!!! SOMEDAY!!!!! This event will help support the hard work being undertaken to preserve the open space and trail access still available in Napa County and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the last 8 years we raised over $27,000 for these organizations. Hopefully, our successes will become regional and/or national models for preserving and expanding existing greenbelt areas.
The ride will pass through three large working cattle ranches and will traverse sections of Skyline Park. During the 50 mile ride there is one vet check on the trail and lunch back in camp. On the 25 mile ride lunch will be on the trail, no crews allowed, we will provide hay, carrots, water and people drinks. There will also be a trot-by for the 50 milers. These rides are of moderate difficulty, covering single track and jeep roads with rocky sections in some areas. If you horse is unaccustomed to rocks pads or easy boots are recommended. Horses should be in good condition.
Dr. Jamie Kerr is again our head vet. He will be assisted by several highly qualified veterinarians. All horses must vet in on the 3rd.
Base camp will be located at Skyline Park in Napa. Camp is a large open meadow, the vet check is located in an arena. Potable water provided from on-site well. Porta-potties and flush toilets are available. Showers can be used for a nominal fee. Please see directions for details. The camp is easily accessible from Hwy 80 and Hwy 101. Camp will be opened at noon & locked at 10pm, so if you plan to arrive late please call ahead to arrange entry.
The rides are sanctioned by AERC and agrees to follow any and all rules required for sanctioning a ride.
