The Napa Valley Scribblers Guild has released its anthology, More than Wine, priced at $9.95 and available at local book stores, selected Bed & Breakfasts or through the Scribblers Guild.
This writers' guild came together a decade ago for the purpose of pursuing the one passion they all share, a passion for the written word. In the summer they gather at a member's ranch on a shaded verandah overlooking vineyards; in the winter the country kitchen serves as their gathering spot. The number of members has varied over the years, but there is always a place reserved for Sophie, the ranch's resident ghost.
The stories in the anthology include prizewinners from Ann Holmes and Helene LeBlanc. Phyllis Angel writes about homesteading in the Escalante Canyon during the late 19th century. Other stories from Chet Moore, Charles Hatvany, Hugh Brereton, Mary Glenn and Beth Rodda range from whimsy and humor to mystery and a shocking story about prison life. Trish Hanly contributes poetry and Elizabeth Allbright and Kamala Dietz contribute both stories and poetry.
"I've been listening to these people's stories for years and decided it was time to get them out there for others to enjoy," says Hugh Brereton, who suggested the idea of the anthology.
