Well, Nintendo's super-genius had to fumble the ball sooner or later. I just think that Nintendo wished that it would of been with a not-so-great character, not the ever-popular Yoshi. This game is a BIG black mark on Nintendo's record. And it's even more concerning to the gamer, as Nintendo has been the ONLY source of quality games for the system.
For starters, this game feeds on graphics. Anything and everything in this game is eye candy. From the eight Yoshis (including the easy-to-get "secret" black and white yoshis) to the enemies, to especially the levels themselves, they are all wonderfully animated, bouncing happlily like a cartoon... another Nintendo kiddy game. But unlike the others, this game has NOTHING to offer older gamers. The music and sound effects are overly-cheery, even for this game. Makes one sick in the stomach just remembering it. If you value sanity, turn it WAY down.
This game is also the easiest damn thing I have ever played. In two days, I had seen all 24 levels, beaten all 5 bosses, have gotten 30 honeydew melons in every level, and picked up both different colored Yoshis. And I didn't even play the whole day. About 4 hours the first, and only 5 or so the second. I DID EVERYTHING IN 9 HOURS! While there may be more hidden, I doubt it justifies the short amount of time I took to complete the majority of the game. And nothing is really so difficult that you'll die more that once, and usually that once is by suprise.
So what is up about this game? Purely cosmetic. When you're watching, this game is amazing. When playing, though, this game makes you wish that you were only watching.
Graphics: 10/10: They got this right. The entire world is animated cleanly, and you'll never run into any slowdown or ugly areas, dispite that it looks like it would.
Sound: 4/10: I'd rather listen to Barney sing. It's more pleasent and at least it dosn't have the world's lamest music in the background.
Challange: 1/10: Where's the challange? Not here, replied the Yoshis, who promptly beat the game on the first run. They can do it, and so will you.
Fun: 6/10: It's actually pretty fun for a while. But in order to get more than 10 hours out of this game, you have to replay all the stages over and over. The sayings of "Kick Ass" will quickly be replaced by "Somebody stop me! Please?"
Replay: 3/10: See challange and previous area for a run down how I feel about easy-ass games in general. If you master a level on the first one, why do you want to do it again? Answer: You DON'T!
Overall: 4/10: The Yoshi's are coming, and no one is safe from their reign of terror. The sad part is that, since this game stars Yoshi, it will sell a million or more copies. Sad...
