Literary Award Winners 1998


LULU PRESS POETRY PRIZE: Winners will be announced later this year at the ArtSCAN biennial celebration (see Calendar).

JESSAMYN WEST POETRY AND FICTION AWARD WINNERS

FICTION categories were judged by University of California English professor and novelist Rom Loewinsohn.
First prize was awarded to Dan Patterson for "Turning Tears to Laughter."
Second prize went to Helene LeBlanc for "The White Dress."

NON-FICTION categories were judged by Napa High School English teacher, Hugh Richmond.
First prize went to Helene LeBlanc for "Start Here, Begin Again."
Second prize went to Anna Rowser for "To Light a Candle in the Cruelest Month."

POETRY was judged by: Sonoma State University English professor, Gillian Connally.
First prize sent to Chris Goff for "Angels".
Second prize went to Roger Hartwellfor "Canyon Wren."

NHS MARGARET BENTLEY CREATIVE WRITING AWARD unknown winner in 1998.

NLAPW-Napa BERNICE DUNN LETTERS, ART & MUSIC AWARD. NLAPW-Napa awarded their annual scholarship to two Napa College graduates: Leah Simons and Shannon Latimer to their further education in the arts. This scholarship was established 10 years ago in honor of Berneace Dunn to encourage talented women in the arts to continue their education.

OPEN DOOR BOOK STORE POETRY AWARD will announce the first annual winner at the end of this year.
