Howell Mountain Vineyards

The Vineyards of Howell Mountain Vineyards

Mike Beatty, Owner of Beatty Ranch Beatty Ranch - Owned by Mike Beatty who has farmed this vineyard, and added to its plantings since the early 1970's. 1,800 feet above the Napa Valley in the Howell Mountain Appellation, this vineyard was planted to Zinfandel in the early 20th century. Planted on 2 m x 2 m spacing and head-trained vines it is carefully cultivated using minimal chemicals and no irrigation - this is an extraordinary Zinfandel vineyard by any measure.

Previously, it was under contract to Ridge Vineyards (Zinfandel) and Cakebread Cellars (Zinfandel); Randy Dunn takes the main portion of Cabernet Sauvignon each year and now grapes are sold to several small producers including Cornerstone. Neatly situated on the outskirts of the town of Angwin this vineyard has produced top quality Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit for over 80 vintages. Howell Mountain Vineyards enshrouded in fog

At 2,400 feet above the Napa Valley it is the highest vineyard in the Howell Mountain Appellation. The Zinfandel vines are "head trained" and dry farmed (no irrigation is used). Perched high above the Napa Valley and surrounded by hundreds of acres of rough terrain and wilderness, the Black Sears Vineyard is sometimes visited by black bear and mountain lion. Portions of this vineyard are currently under contract to Turley Cellars, Elyse, D3 and other small projects. Howell Mountain Vineyards dusted in snow
