Amazing Spider-Man #326-#329
Acts of Vengeance reached the world of Spider-Man in Amazing #326, which
saw Peter Parker humbled by
Graviton, traditionally the foe of The Avengers.
The next day, a seemingly normal Monday afternoon, while performing a science
experiment Peter Parker
was once again endowed with superpowers (the first time being Amazing Fantasy#15).
But this time
instead of Spider-Powers, Peter received Cosmic Superpowers, transforming
him into the most powerful
superhero in the Universe! These new powers included the ability to fly,
unlimited strength, the ability to
alter molecular structure, the power to shoot blasts of cosmic energy, the
list just goes on...
This is in the midst of the Marvel-wide 'Acts of Vengeance' cross-over,
when the bad guys were swapping
foes. Because of this, the Webslinger fought such villains as...
Paste Pot Pete (a.k.a. The Trapster) (SSM #158)
Graviton (faring much better this time)
Titania (the female power-house) (Web #59)
Magneto (whom the whole X-Men struggle to beat) (ASM #327)
The Brothers Grimm (SSM #159)
Goliath (Web #60)
Hulk (Grey Hulk gets smashed!) (ASM #328)
Shocker, Rhino, Hydro Man, T.E.S.S-One (Doom's Robot) (SSM #160)
Dragon-Man (Web #61)
...and kicks all their asses.
As a result of the experiment, Spidey only receives some of the cosmic powers,
and is therefore unaware
that he is actually in possession of the Captain Universe powers until he
fights the Tri-Sentinel (a goodbye
present from Loki, Thor's brother) in Amazing #329, Acts of Vengeance Aftermath.
It turns out that Spider-Man was chosen to become Captain Universe specifically
to defeat the threat of the
Tri-Sentinel, and after saving the world from destruction he loses his new-found
powers and reverts back
into your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man!
