The Doctors
Dr. Jim Latham is one of our large animal staff Veterinarians.
He graduated from Colorado State University in 1975. His particular interests include Equine dentistry, and lameness
diagnosis using physical exam, nerve blocks, mobile radiography, and diagnostic ultrasound.
Dr. Patty Latham is one of our small animal veterinarians, also
graduating from Colorado State University in 1975. Dr. Patty enjoys the challenges of small animal medicine and
surgery and has a particular interest in animal behavior.
Dr. Claudia Sonder is a veterinarian who has joined us to help with
the large animal end of the practice. Claudia graduated from Tufts University before going on to get her Veterinary
degree at UC Davis. Jeff and Claudia have a daughter, Molly, and have moved to Napa with all of their pets. She
handles all aspects of the large animal practice, but has a special interest in equine reproduction and neonatal
medicine
Dr. Jennifer Baker joined us September 1, 1998 after practicing in Lake Port, CA. She is a graduate of
the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and is interested in surgery, behavior, general small-animal
medicine, and has experience in "pocket pets", small ruminants (including llamas and vicunas), and avian
maintenance. Her husband Jim is a chemist in Petaluma, and she brings with her a dog, Maggie, and cats Phester
and Binky, and a Blue Conure. |

NVVH History
| Dr. Jim and Patty Latham purchased Napa Valley Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Bill Hammerich in 1977. They have expanded
the practice to include a full time equine mobile practice, and increased capabilities in radiology, ultrasound,
endoscopy, surgery and in house medical laboratory testing. |

The Staff
Paula Singletary, Office Manager, has been with the practice since 1987. Paula grew up in Napa, attended
Vintage High School and Napa Valley College, and is in charge of reception, billing, inventory, and scheduling.
She continues to work part time in the front office, trying to keep us all straight. She is here Monday-Wednesday,
and some Friday afternoons. Paula's husband, Jari, works for Mondavi winery and they have a 1 1/2 year old son,
Ryan, who is an absolute barrel of laughs. They have one dog, two cats, a horse, and two cockatiels.
Robin Martin, Veterinary Assistant a Vintage graduate. She has been with the Practice since 1988. Robin
is Dr. Patty's assistant in all phases of Primary Care. Robin's husband Maury is a tilesetter. Robin and Maury
have two dogs, three cats, two horses, and two cockatiels. They had their first child, Arilyn Rita Martin, in on
Thanksgiving morning of 1997. Robin will be back to work in the spring.
Melissa Stancliff is a graduate of VHS and the Vintage High school horse management program, and she
is fast on the computer. She is working hard at learning all your names and has been a great help.
Debbi Hamilton is a licensed Veterinary Technician who joined us in September of 1997. She has both large
and small animal experience.
Katie Purtell has joined us as a Saturday receptionist and assistant in training. She is a Vintage High grad
and attends the Santa Rosa JC.
Megan Mauldin is a sophomore at VHS and helps us out with maintenance and animal care.
The Latham Family
Jim Latham III graduated from UC Davis with honors in 1997, and is attending Penn State on a scholarship for his
graduate work in Anthropology
Jake graduated from Vintage in 1998, and was the night "floors guy" for many years (as well as creator
of this site). He will go to UC Davis this coming year, with a major in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior
with a minor in Computer Science. Jake was awarded the UC Davis Regent's Scholarship.
Daughter Lara has Master's in Public Health and works in Chicago at Ernst &Young, and was married to Jason
Brown this summer.
Couldn't tell you what the doctors are good for ;-).
The Lathams enjoy hiking, skiing, and golf, as well as raising and training horses. |
